For our Kiel or Hamburg branch.
Our unit "Innovative information systems and publishing technologies" develops software for information systems, digital library applications and research infrastructures. This comprises designing, implementing and maintaining typical digital library applications such as repositories and subject portals, metadata management, a system for long-term preservation, or Semantic Web related data and applications. Moreover, the unit works on software and platforms for managing, publishing and disseminating research data.
With respect to the latter, we are looking for a
Scientific software developer (m/f)
at our unit for "Innovative information systems and publishing technologies". The full-time position is located in Hamburg or Kiel (depending on applicant's preference), Germany. We offer an unlimited contract with a salary at level EG 13 (according to federal labor agreement).
Your tasks ...
- to develop software for the purpose of discovering and citing research data from distributed sources (data centers and repositories)
- to maintain and enhance our already existing solutions for managing data (in particular a data archive for publishing data as supplement for articles (http://journaldata.zbw.eu/)
- to document, deploy and publish your code preferably as open source
- to report about your work and solutions through presentations, talks and demos at international conferences and workshops
- to occasionally contribute to research proposals related to the above-mentioned topics.
Your profile:
- Master or diploma in computer science or in a related field (with a focus on software engineering)
- knowledge and expertise in programming with Python and related web frameworks (e.g., Flask, Pylons, Pyramid, Django, Plone, Jupyter)
- experience with designing and implementing search applications by means of suitable frameworks (e.g., Elasticsearch, Solr, Lucene)
- experiences with DevOps and related tools, environments and workflows
- strong communication skills, team-player and cooperation also in an international context
desirable:
- experiences with code versioning (in particilar with Git)
- experiences with data portal suite CKAN (https://ckan.org)
- basic understanding of data life-cycle
- own practical experience with data, e.g. as data scientist
- a scientific and research-based mindset
